BORN GRIMSBY 1899. SON OF JOHN RICHARD MUMBY (1866-1938) AND MARY ELIZABETH SMITH (1868-1951), OF 47, ETON STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). THIRD OF SIX CHILDREN. A FORMER PORTER WITH THE NORTH EASTERN RAILWAYS. HE ENLISTED IN HULL ON 27/01/1917.  DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 3 INCHES TALL, 34.5 INCH CHEST, “FAIR” PHYSICAL CONDITION. THIS WAS HIS 1918 ABSENT VOTERS ADDRESS. POSTED TO FRANCE ON 12/12/1917. HE SERVED WITH THE 18TH DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY. KILLED ON 11/04/1918, AGED 19. HE HAD SERVED IN ARMY FOR 365 DAYS.

HE IS BURIED AT LE GRAND BEAUMART BRITISH CEMETERY, STEENWERCK, NORD, FRANCE.
