BORN CAERNAFON, WALES, 26/09/1897. SON OF SARAH CATHERINE NANNEY (1869-1940 & THE LATE WILLIAM REES NANNEY (1869-1915), AT THIS CWGC ADDRESS.
HIS FATHER WAS A PROFESSIONAL SOLDIER, WITH THE ROYAL WELCH FUSILIERS, AND WAS KILLED AT GALLIPOLI ON 20/08/1915, AGED 46. JOHN WAS ONE OF NINE CHILDREN. HE ENLISTED IN CAERNAFON. SERVED WITH THE 11TH SOUTH WALES BORDERERS, AND WAS KILLED IN ACTION AT YPRES, ON 31/07/1917, AGED 19. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE MEMIN GATE MEMORIAL, TO THE MISSING. UNMARRIED HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LOST TO HIS WIDOWED MOTHER, WHO AHD ALSO LOST HER HUSBAND IN THE WAR.
