HMS E-16 was an E-class submarine built by Vickers, Barrow-in-Furness for the Royal Navy in 1915. E-16 was the first E-class submarine to sink a U-boat, U-6, 4 miles south-west of Karmøy island off Stavanger, Norway on 15 September 1915. E-16 was sunk by a mine in Heligoland Bight on 22 August 1916. She was last seen by E-38, 35 miles East from Yarmouth. There were no survivors. The wreck of HMS E-16 was discovered in July 2001, about 18 miles off Heligoland Island in 36 metres deep water. Claes Johnny 23/11/2007 The British submarine E-16 was last sighted thirty-five miles east of Yarmouth by HMS E-38. E-38 later observed a group of warships moving north, in the vicinity of Terschelling, Splashes were seen near to one of the warships which may have been depth charges exploding.
