I have been looking into the history of my grandfather Ernest Charles Parker. My father used to tell me he was the youngest skipper to ever sail out of Hull? He never mentioned that the ship went down in the war. I do have a photograph of the family showing his father (Ernest Charles) his mother Lilian nee potter and my dad, 2 brothers and a sister. He used to tell me that within 2/3 years of the picture being taken 3 of them were dead!!! His eldest brother was run over by a tram, his father died at sea and his mother died in childbirth. My dad and his sister did spend 2 years in newland orphanage. Since I have been looking into the history I’ve also found out that Ernest Charles brother, also was on the ‘Industria’ it’s all so very sad. My father was born in 1913, so I don’t expect he will have been able to remember his father. Also it states that he was 37 when he passed, but I believe he was only 33/34.

On 30/04/1917, the Hull steam trawler. ‘INDUSTRIA’ was captured by a U-boat and sunk by time bombs in the North Sea. Position of loss also reported as NE of Humber, 30/04/1917
(?) Also, reported by U Boat.net as sunk 25/03/1917, stopped and sunk by opening the scuttles of Scotland (?), crew of 9 all lost as not recovered from lifeboat. (?)
