William Henry Penrose

BORN HULL 1893. ELDEST SON OF WILLIAM (1864-1930) & MARY JANE PENROSE (1866-1914), OF 18 TEMPLE STREET, 3 ENDYMION STREET, HULL AND “THE LIMES” ELLA STREET, HULL (HDM ADDRESS). PRIOR TO WAR, HE WORKED FOR THE HULL POST OFFICE AS A TELEGRAPHIST.

HE ENLISTED WITH HIS TWO BROTHERS, HAROLD AND STANLEY PENROSE. JOINED THE LONDON POST OFFICE RIFLES. WOUNDED IN ACTION & DIED OF GUN SHOT WOUNDS, ON 15/09/1916, AGED 23. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 18TH SEPTEMBER 1916, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *

HIS ARMY PENSION WENT TO HIS FATHER, WILLIAM PENROSE, WHO MOVED TO 5 POPLAR GROVE, NORTHUMBERLAND AVENUE, HULL (PENSION LEDGER ADDRESS).

HIS TWO BROTHERS, HAROLD AND STANLEY, SERVED IN THE ARTILLERY.
