Purnell, Richard Johnson

Born Scarborough, 1871. Son of George Purnell (1843-1885) and Hannah Johnson (1843-1918), of 50, Trafalga Street, Scarborough. He had three brothers and three sisters. He worked as a bricklayer living with his mother (1911 Census). He moved to Hull and was living at 43, Ash Grove, Beverley Road, Hull.

He enlisted at Northallerton. Formerly, 3640, 2/4th Yorkshire Regiment. Transferred to the 20th King’s Royal Rifle Corps. Died at home, on 20/10/1916, aged 45, of chronic Bronchitis and Syncope.

He married Harriet Pace, at Leeds, in July 1915. His wife Harriet lived in Haworth, Keighley. Address above from Electoral Records.
