BORN SUNDERLAND 1878. SON OF JOSEPH & MARY JANE RADGE, OF 3 DEVON AVENUE, ST PAUL STREET, HULL. HE JOINED TH ARMY IN ON 03/06/1896. HE MARRIED SOPHIA FLAIR (1880-1935), AT SCULCOATES, HULL, IN 1898. THEY LIVED AT 57 RUSSELL STREET, HULL. THIS WAS THEIR 1911 CENSUS ADDRESS. SERVED IN THE BOER WAR. AWARDED BOTH THE QUEEN AND KINGS SOUTH AFRICAN MEDAL, 3 CLASPS. HE LEFT THE ARMY IN 1908 AFTER 12 YEARS. RECALLED TO SERVICE AT THE OUTBREAK OF WAR. POSTED AS BOMBARDIER, ROYAL HORSE ARTILLERY, 45TH ANTI AIRCRAFT SECTION. SERVED IN THE BALKANS AND FRANCE. HE DIED ON 19/06/1917, AGED 39. HE LEFT A WIDOW AND ONE CHILD. HE IS BURIED AT CALAIS. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION READS, “CHRIST WILL LINK THE BROKEN CHAIN CLOSER WHEN WE MEET AGAIN FROM HIS DEVOTED WIFE.”
