BORN HULL 1879. ONLY SON OF THOMAS HENRY RILEY (1848-1905) & ELLEANOR (ELLEN) BRAITHWAITE (1851-1940), OF BEVERLEY ROAD WORKHOUSE.

HE WAS AN UNMARRIED LABOURER. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 5 INCHES TALL, 37-39 INCH CHEST, 150 LBS WEIGHT, GOOD PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT

HE ENLISTED AT HULL, ON 03/04/1916. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 16/07/1916. SERVED WITH THE 7TH YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 16/10/1917, AGED 38. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE TYNE COT MEMORIAL, BELGIUM.

HIS ONLY SISTER, AND NEXT OF KIN, MRS FLORENCE DEYES, LIVED AT 26, MYTON STREET, HULL (ARMY ADDRESS) AND 40, TYNE STREET, HESSLE ROAD, HULL.

HIS NAME WAS RECORDED ON THE WW1 MEMORIAL AT ST JOHN THE BAPTIST CHURCH, NEWINGTON, HULL.
