BORN HULL 1894. SON OF NORAH KELLY (1858-1905) AND EDWARD ROBERTS (1853-1910), AT 240, “THE BRISTOWS”, BEVERLEY ROAD, HULL (1911 CENSUS ADDRESS) AND 13, DERBY STREET, BEVERLEY ROAD, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). YOUNGEST OF FIVE CHILDREN. A BUTCHER’S ASSISTANT.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED AS PRIVATE, 11105, 7TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 02/12/1915, AGED 21. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS SISTER, KATHLEEN.

HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON ST CHARLES BORROMEO CHURCH WAR MEMORIAL, JARRATT STREET, HULL, WITH HIS BROTHER, PRIVATE, GEORGE GERALD ROBERTS, 13/895, 13TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, WHO DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 18/07/1916, AGED 27.
EDWARD ANTHONY ROBERTS IS BURIED IN BELGIUM, AT LIJSSENTHOEK MILITARY CEMETERY. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “ON WHOSE SOUL SWEET JESUS HAVE MERCY”
