BORN 1895. SON OF CLARA THORLEY, OF 17 CHERRY TREE TERRACE, BEVERLEY (CWGC ADDRESS). HE ENLISTED AT BEVERLEY. SERVED WITH THE 5TH YORKSHIRE HUSSARS. WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 06/07/1915, AGED 20. HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON THE BEVERLEY WAR MEMORIAL, MEMORIAL GARDENS. HE IS BURIED AT R.E. FARM CEMETERY, BELGIUM. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “IN LOVING MEMORY OF MY DEAR SON FROM MOTHER GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN”.

Walter Roberts was born in Beverley on 26 January 1896. He was son of Clara Roberts.

He enlisted in Beverley and joined the 5th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment – Yorkshire Hussars (Alexandra, Princess of Wales’ Own).

Walter was killed in action near Dranoutre (Ypres Salient) on 6 July 1915, aged 20.
