Sabberton, William

Born Lowestoft, on 09/04/1866. Baptised on 27/01/1870. Son of Richard Sabberton and Mary Ann Bone, of Lowestoft. He married Bertha Marie Evy (1867-1927), at Mutford, Suffolk, on 03/10/1885. They had three sons. He was a labourer, boarding at 7 Princess Terrace, Rosamond Street, Hull (1911 Census).

Served with Royal Naval Reserve. Lost on H.M. Trawler “Speeton.”, 31/12/1915, aged 49. He is listed on the Westbourne Street, Roll of Honour (Hull Daily Mail 22 September 1916).

William’s son, Pte, Edward Ernest Sabberton, 1521, 16th Australian Imperial Force, was killed at Lone Pine, Gallipoli, on 01/05/1915, aged 20.

William’s brother, George Frederick Sabberton, drowned on “Glen Rosa”, on 26/09/1917, aged 40.
