BORN SHEFFIELD 1892. SON OF CHARLES S. SALTFLEET (1863-1940) & FANNY ELLIOT (1863-1953), OF 14 OSBERTON PLACE, SHEFFIELD.

HE WORKED AS A CARVER, IN A RESTAURANT (1911 CENSUS). HE MARRIED AT SCULCOATES, HULL, JUNE 1916. HUSBAND OF ESTHER AGNES ROGERS (1892-1975).

ENLISTED HULL. SERVED AS A GUNNER IN THE ROYAL GARRISON ARTILLERY. KILLED IN ACTION ON 28/10/1917, AGED 25. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE YPRES MENIN GATE, MEMORIAL, BELGIUM. HIS NAME WAS LISTED ON THE HULL GARDENER SOCIETY MEMORIAL AT HULL MINSTER.

HE LEFT A WIDOW AND SON FRED (1917-2011). HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO ESTHER.

A FURTHER TRAGEDY WAS THAT HE WAS THE BROTHER IN LAW, OF WILLIAM DONALDSON, OF THE STEAM SHIP ‘VASCO’, LOST AT SEA ON 16/11/1916.

HIS ONLY BROTHER, CHARLES BRANSON SALTFLEET, EX LANCERS, DIED IN WAKEFIELD LUNATIC ASYLUM, IN JUNE 1917, AGED 30.
