HE MARRIED EDITH MARIA ATKINSON IN HULL, IN 1899. HIS WIFE AND THREE CHILDREN, LIVED ABOVE & 62 HEREFORD STREET, HULL, (ARMY ADDRESS). A BRICKLAYER.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 05/12/1914, AGED 38 YEARS AND 3 MONTHS. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 5 INCHES TALL, 36.5 INCH CHEST, & 150 LBS WEIGHT. SERVED AS PRIVATE, 13/1059, 13TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT (HULL PALS BATTALION. POSTED TO EGYPT ON 15/12/1915. THEN TO FRANCE, ON 08/03/1916. HE DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 16/07/1916, AGED 40. HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR 1 YEAR AND 225 DAYS. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, EDITH MARIA SCOTT.
HE IS BURIED AT VIEILLE-CHAPELLE NEW MILITARY CEMETERY, LACOUTURE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “OUT OF SIGHT BUT ALWAYS IN MEMORY FROM WIFE AND FAMILY
