BORN HULL 29/06/1894. SON OF JOHN ROBERT SHELTON AND CAROLINE PEACOCK, OF 2, WILIAM PLACE, CHAPMAN STREET, HULL (1901 CENSUS) AND 39, RAKE STREET, HULL (ARMY PROBATE ADDRESS). HIS FATHER WAS A DOCKSIDE LABOURER, “SLIGHTLY ADICTED TO DRINK”. HE HAD TWO BROTHERS AND ONE SISTER. HE WAS SENTENCED TO A REFORMATORY SCHOLL, LEEDS, ON 25/06/1910, FOR SHOP BREAKING AND ESCAPING FROM EMPLOYER WHILST ON LICENCE. DESCRIBED AS 4 FOOT, 9 INCHES TALL, FAIR HAIR, BLUE EYES, CHURCH OF ENGLAND RELIGION. HE LEFT SCHOOL, AGED 19, ON 28/07/1913.

HE ENLISTED AT DEVONPORT, DEVON. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 06/05/1915. SERVED WITH THE 1ST DORSETSHIRE REGIMENT. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 16/06/1915, AGED 20.

COMMEMORATED ON THE YPRES MENIN GATE, MEMORIAL, BELGIUM. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER ROBERT SHELTON.
