Short, Alexander Coverdale

BORN NAFFERTON 1892. ELDEST SON OF BENJAMIN & EMILY SHORT, NAFFERTON. ONE OF SEVEN CHILDREN. STEPSON OF WILLIAM JEFFERSON, AT 44 HOPWOOD STREET, HULL. EMPLOYED AS A BRICKLAYER’S APPRENTICE. THEN WORKED FOR THE NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY LINE.

HE ENLISTED AT YORK, IN SEPTEMBER 1914. JOINED THE NER PALS BN, BASED IN HULL. HE DIED AT CODFORD MILITARY HOSPITAL, WILTSHIRE, ON 25/10/1915, AGED 23. HE IS BURIED AT CODFORD ST. MARY (ST. MARY) CHURCHYARD, WILTSHIRE.
HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, DORA WHITAKER. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL TIMES, ON 13/11/1915, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *

HE WAS LISTED AS KILLED ON THE ALEXANDRA STREET SHRINE (HDM 23/10/1916).
