Stainton, George Alfred

BORN HULL 1890. HULL POLICEMAN, FROM THE PARLIAMENT STREET DIVISION. HAD THE DISTINCTION OF BEING THE FIRST HULL POLICEMAN TO ENLIST IN THE WAR. HE WAS THE SON OF MR H & ELIZABETH STAINTON, OF 1 EBENEEZER PLACE, MORTON, GAINSBOROUGH. HE RESIDED WITH MRS ROBINSON AT 46 HUTT STREET, SPRING BANK, HULL. HE SERVED AS A GUNNER, IN THE ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY AND DIED OF WOUNDS, AT NOTTINGHAM HOSPITAL, ON THE 14TH OCTOBER 1918. HE WAS 27 YEARS OLD.  HE JOINED IN 1914 AND SERVED TWO YEARS IN FRANCE. HE HAD BEEN WOUNDED TWICE AND GASSED ONCE.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH ON THE 22ND OCTOBER 1918. *

HE IS BURIED AT GAINSBOROUGH (NORTH WARREN) CEMETERY, LINCOLNSHIRE, UK
