BORN HULL 1887. SON OF SARAH ELIZABETH YABSLEY (1846-1927) & EDWIN SMITH STUMBLES (1846-1909), OF 10 JACKVILLE TERRACE, FERRIES STREET, HULL (1901) HE HAD TWO BROTHERS AND TWO SISTERS. HIS FATHER DIED IN 1909. HE WORKED AS A LABOURER, LIVING AT 14 CROWLE AVANUE, CROWLE STREET, HULL (1911).

ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED AS A GUNNER, THE ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY. DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 05/10/1918, AGED 35, AT ST GILES HOSPITAL.

HE IS BURIED AT BROOKWOOD MILITARY CEMETERY, WOKING, SURREY, UK. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “THY WILL BE DONE”.

UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, SARAH, WHO MOVED TO STONE BRIDGE HOUSE, WORTLEY, LEEDS (WAR PENSION RECORDS).
HIS BROTHER, WILLIAM JAMES STUMBLES, SERVED AS A SERGEANT, IN THE ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY.
