BORN BEVERLEY, 1894. FIFTH SON OF FREDERICK EDWARD TATTERSALL AND ANNIE MARIE SMITH, OF BECKSIDE BEVERLEY. A SHIPYARD LABOURER. ENLISTED BEVERLEY. SERVED WITH THE 5TH YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. KILLED IN ACTION 15/09/1916, AGED 22. COMMEMORATED ON THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER, FREDERICK TAATTERSALL.
HIS NAME IS ALSO RECORDED ON THE BEVERLEY WAR MEMORIAL, MEMORIAL GARDENS.

Walter Tattersall was born in Beverley in 3 January 1895 He was son of Frederick and Annie Marie Tattersall.

He served with the 5th Battalion of the Yorkshire Regiment (the Green Howards)

On 14 September 1916 the Regiment started to attack the Wonderwerk including part of the Hohenzollern trench in preparation for the Battle of Thiepval. On 15 September Walter was killed in action. His body was never with recovered

He was awarded the Victory and British medal. Walter is remembered on the Thiepval Memorial and the Hengate memorial In Beverley.
