Hull Pals Memorial Post. PRIVATE CYRIL FRAZER TENNISON 10/313. Born in October 1894, Cyril was the son of Twilton and Kate Tennison of 6 Westbourne Villas, Ferriby Road, Hessle. An Oil Manufacturer’s Clerk before the war, Cyril joined the long uneven lines waiting in those innocent early days when the war seemed like a big adventure, a break from the monotony of a future set in stone. One of the original Pals, he enlisted on 2nd September 1914 training throughout Yorkshire in 1915 before shipping for Egypt on 8th December. The Pals arrived in France on 6th March 1916 and Cyril fought in all their major campaigns from the Somme to Oppy Wood and the rearguard action which stemmed the tide of the German Spring Offensive in March 1918. He was taken ill and returned to the General Military Hospital at Edmonton, Middlesex where he died of cancer on 25th September 1918. His body was returned home and he is buried at Haltemprice Cemetery in Hull.
