HE SAILED WITH THE 5TH YORKSHIRE BATTALION TO LE HAVRE ON 17/04/1915. HIS REGIMENT WAS IN ACTION, A WEEK LATER, AT ST JULIEN, SUFFERING HEAVY CASUALTIES. HE WAS KILLED AT HILL 60 SUPERVISING TRENCH REPAIRS.

HIS NAME IS INSCRIBED ON THE KIRKELLA WAR MEMORIAL AT ST ANDREWS’ CHURCH.

HIS PROBATE ADDRESS WAS 36, HIGH STREET, HULL.

HE WAS UNMARRIED. HE LEFT £818 IN HIS WILL TO HIS BROTHER GERALD.

HE IS BURIED AT POPERINGHE NEW MILITARY CEMETERY, BELGIUM. HIS GRAVE READS, “IN LOVING MEMORY BORN OCTOBER 23RD 1887”
