BORN ECCLES FIELD, SHEFFIELD 1886.  SON OF WILLIAM THORNTON AND AGNES THORNTON, OF  SEWARD STREET, HULL. AND 3 NEW ROW, WOODCOCK STREET,  HULL. SON OF A ARILWAY CLERK . EX BLUNDELL’S LABOURER. LIVING AT 56 JAMES STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS). HE ENLISTED IN HULL  SERVED WITH THE 8TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 09/04/1917, AGED 30. BURIED AT TILLOY BRITISH CEMETERY, TILLOY-LES-MOFFLAINES, FRANCE.

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS BROTHERS, PERCY, THOMAS, AND WILLIAM, AND SISTERS, FRANCES, ETHEL AND AGNES. HIS NEXT OF KIN WAS HIS BROTHER, THOMAS, OF 10 SPRINGFIELD TERRACE, KIVERTON PARK , SHEFFIELD (CWGC).

NOTE. SOLDIERS DIED RECORDS STATE THAT HE WAS BORN IN HULL.
