BORN HULL 1883. SON OF EDWARD THUNDERCLIFFE (1847-1904) AND JANE WILKINSON (1849-1891). HIS MOTHER DIED IN CHILDBIRTH. HE BECAME THE ADOPTED SON OF MR ROBERT JAMES HARPER AND MARY LOUISA HARPER, OF 34 WILLIAM STREET, HULL. HIS FATHER WAS A SHIPWRIGHT OF HULL. EDUCATED AT DRYPOOL SCHOOL. EMPLOYED AS A LABOURER’S ASSISTANT. MARRIED LUCRETIA JOSEPHA WARNECKE (1891-1958), IN 1912. HIS WIFE LUCY AND YOUNG SON, ERNEST, LIVED AT 66 AND 34 WILLIAM STREET, HULL.

HE ENLISTED AT WENLOCK BARRACKS IN HULL ON 19/05/1908. JOINED THE 1ST EAST RIDING BATTERY, 2ND NORTHUMBRIAN BRIGADE. ARRIVED IN FRANCE ON 20/04/1915. DIED OF SHRAPNEL WOUNDS, ON 16/05/1915, AGED 24. HE HAD SERVED FOR SIX YEARS AND THREE DAYS. BURIED AT YPRES COMMUNAL CEMETERY. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, LUCRETIA ASNIP, WHO REMARRIED AND DIED IN 1958.
HIS NAME IS LISTED ON THE WILLIAM STREET ROLL OF HONOUR. HIS DEATH AND PHOTOGRAPH ARE REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 3RD JUNE 1915, AND THE HULL TIMES, ON 5TH JUNE 1915. *
