BORN HULL 1897. SON OF ARTHUR LANGHORN WARDROBE (1873-1940) & EMMA ANN BARTRAM (1871-1935). SON OF A DOCK LABOURER. ELDEST OF THREE CHILDREN. SISTER ELSIE AND BROTHER SERGEANT, ARTHUR LANGHORN WARDROBE, ARMY SERVICE CORPS, LIVED AT SAME ADDRESS. JOHN WAS A BRASS MAKER. HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 11/12/1915, AGED 18 YEARS AND 1 MONTH. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 7 INCHES TALL, 33.5 INCH CHEST. HE WAS MOBILIZED ON 24/04/1918. SENT TO FRANCE WITH THE 7TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 04/11/1918, AGED 20, A WEEK BEFORE THE WAR ENDED. UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER, ARTHUR.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 3RD DECEMBER 1918, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
