Private, Philip Stuart Whipp (1896-1916)

Born Hornsea, 1896. Son of Albert Edward Whipp and Emily Marion Dyson. he father was Managing Director a steam shipping company. He had elder siblings, Kathleen, a nurse and William, a Shipping Clerk. The family lived in Croydon, Surrey, Brentwood, Essex and Shoreham, Sussex, where Philip went to the local Grammar School. Philip worked as an Office Clerk when war began.

He enlisted on 07/12/1915. Posted to France, on 31/08/1916. Transferred to the 5th West Yorkshire Regiment. Killed in action, on 13/10/1916, aged 20.

He was buried in Foncquevillers Military Cemetery, Pas-de-Calais, France.
