PRIVATE THOMAS McMORRAN WRIGHT, 12/1215.
Born in Hull, on 12/06/1884. Thomas was one of seven children to Thomas Wright (1848-1900) Harriet McMorran. A Salesman by trade, he was employed by Messers, Rymers, of Cave Street, Hull as a mineral water rulleyman.
He married Jessie Nobbs (1890-1971), at St. Mark’s Church, on 1st May 1910. The couple lived with their son Thomas Jnr (born 30/7/1912), at 8, Mason View, Cumberland Street, Hull (Army records address)
When war came, Thomas enlisted at Hull City Hall on 19th December 1914, joining the 12th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment, ‘The Sportsmen’, 3rd Hull Pals. Thomas was wounded by a grenade (very possibly the same which so badly wounded Edward Hadlow) on 16th April 1916 and withdrawn to the 4th Casualty Clearing Station with injuries to his right lung and leg. He died two days later and is buried in Beauval Communal Cemetery; he was 30 years old.
He is buried at Beauval Communal Cemetery, Somme, France.
He is also commemorated on Hull’s, St Mark Street Roll of Honour.
His widow Jessie married Private, Renal Evan Richards, 18th DLI, on 24th February 1918. He was a discharged soldier and they lived at 1, Albert Terrace, waterloo Street, Hull (war pension records)
