BORN LAVERTHORPE, YORK, 1894. SON OF DANIEL WATSON HOPPER (1860-1035) & AMELIA STOWE OVERTON (1862-1920), OF 31, MAPLE STREET, QUEENS ROAD, HULL (1911 CENSUS) AND 70 ALEXANDRA ROAD, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). HE HAD THREE BROTHERS AND SIX SISTERS.
MARRIED ON 8TH APRIL 1916, AT ST JOHNS, NEWLAND. HIS WIFE, EDITH MAUD HOPPER LIVED AT 22, MINTON STREET, NEWLAND AVENUE, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 8.5 INCHES TALL,36-38 INCH CHEST, 123 LBS WEIGHT, “GOOD” PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT

HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 18/11/1915. CALLED UP ON 28/02./1917. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 22/03/1917. SERVED AS A RAILWAY SAPPER, IN THE ROYAL ENGINEERS. ADMIITED TO HOSPITAL IN A “TYPHUS” STATE. DIED OF SEPTICEMIA, ON 07/04/1918, AGED 24. (AUTOPSY REPORT).
HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW EDITH AND SON JOHN EDWARD (1917-1988)
HIS BROTHER, DANIEL WATSON HOPPER, 7TH LINCOLNSHIRE RGEIMENT, DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 29/08/1918, AGED 22.
BOTH HOPPER BROTHERS ARE COMMEMORATED ONTHE WW1 MEMORIAL AT ST JOHNS, NEWLAND, HULL.
