BEFORE THE WAR HE WORKED FOR MESSRS. STONE & WILKINSON, BRASS FINISHERS. JOINED THE 169TH HULL HEAVY BATTERY, ROYAL GARRISON ARTILLERY. TRANSFERRED TO THE 163RD SIEGE BATTERY, ROYAL GARRISON ARTILLERY. CONTRACTED MALARIA FEVER IN EAST AFRICA. DIED IN CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA, ON 11/05/1917, AGED 25. HE WAS MENTIONED IN DESPATCHES. BURIED AT CAPE TOWN (MAITLAND) CEMETERY, WESTERN CAPE, SOUTH AFRICA.
HE LEFT A WIDOW AND TWO CHILDREN. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH, IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 18TH MAY 1917. *
