BORN HULL 1895. SON JAMES ANDREW KERR (1865-1936) & HARIETTE KERR (1863-1901), OF 6 SUNNY BANK, SPRING BANK WEST, HULL. HE ENLISTED WITH THE DUKE OF CORNWALL’S LIGHT INFANTRY, ON THE 15/09/1914. WAS COMMISSIONED TO THE 13TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT AND THEN TRANSFERRED TO THE 97TH MACHINE GUN CORPS. HE WAS WOUNDED IN THE HEAD AND SPENT MANY HOURS, IN NO MANS LAND, BEING SHELLED, “CAKED IN MUD”, BEFORE HE COULD BE RESCUED. HE DIED OF WOUNDS RECEIVED ON 18/11/16, AGED 21. HE WAS ENGAGED TO THE THE DAUGHTER, OF ALDERMAN HARGREAVES, LOD MAYOR OF HULL. HIS FIANCEE MISS HARGREAVES AND NORMAN’S PARENTS WENT TO FRANCE TO BE WITH HIM IN HOSPITAL. HE DIED A MONTH LATER, AGED 21.
HE IS BURIED AT ETAPLES CEMETERY, FRANCE. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 30TH DECEMBER 1916, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH.*
