BORN HULL 28/05/1893. BAPTISED AT ST CHARLES BORROMEO, HULL ON 4TH JUNE 1893.

SON OF STEPHEN MARSH (1859-1927) & MARY ELIZABETH PORTER (1863-1950), OF 41, SOMERSCALES STREET, HULL & 110, ELLA STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESSES). SON OF A RAILWAY PORTER. HIS MOTHER WAS A SHOP KEEPER. HE HAD THREE BROTHERS, FRANCES, JOHN AND GEORGE AND TWO SISTERS, ELIZABETH AND HILDA.

EDUCATED AT PRYME STREET, ROMAN CATHOLIC SCHOOL, HULL & THE HULL COMMERCIAL SCHOOLS.

BEFORE THE WAR HE WORKED AS A CLERK FOR THE NORTH EASTERN RAILWAYS, AT VICTORIA DOCK.

HE ENLISTED 04/09/1914. TRANSFERRED TO THE TYNESIDE SCOTS IN AUGUST 1916. HE BECAME A LANCE CORPORAL ON 03/09/1916, & SERGEANT ON 13/09/1916. HE WAS GRANTED A COMMISSION ON 30/05/1917 AND ATTACHED TO 1ST LINCOLN REGIMENT. WOUNDED ON 04/10/1917. KILLED 21/03/1918, AGED 24.

HIS BROTHER, PRIVATE, FRANCIS WILFRED MARSH, 22009, 1ST EYR,  WAS KILLED IN ACTION ON 25/09/1916, AGED 28.

ANOTHER BROTHER, GEORGE, WAS WOUNDED AND TAKEN PRISONER IN OCTOBER 1917.

WILLIAM IS LISTED WITH HIS BROTHER, FRANCIS WILFRED MARSH, ON THE ST CHARLES BORROMEO CHURCH WW1 MEMORIAL, JARRATT STREET, HULL.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 8TH APRIL 1918, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH.
