A ROMAN CATHOLIC, FROM AN IRISH FAMILY. HIS MANY SIBLINGS DIED IN INFANCY. HIS FATHER DIED IN 1911. HE HAD ONE SURVIVING BROTHER, GABRIEL McCORMICK (1906-1956).
BEFORE THE WAR, HE WAS A STUDENT AT USHAW COLLEGE, DURHAM, A CATHOLIC SEMINARY.
HE ENLISTED IN DURHAM. FORMERLY, PRIVATE, 29573, ROYAL DUBLIN FUSILIERS. HE TRANSFERRED AS PRIVATE, 26251, TO THE 7TH ROYAL IRISH RIFLES. PROMOTED CORPORAL. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION ON 02/09/1918, AGED 20. HE IS BURIED IN BELGIUM. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “R.I.P.”
