EMPLOYED AS A PROP CARRIER AND TIMBER LABOURER, BOARDING AT 19 DERBY STREET, BEVERLEY ROAD, HULL (1911 CENSUS).
HE ENLISTED IN HULL. ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 27/04/1915. SERVED AS PRIVATE, 13169, 2ND BATTALION, COLDSTREAM GUARDS. HE DIED AT THE SOMME, ON 14/09/1916, AGED 38.
HIS REGIMENT IS LISTED AS NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS IN HULL DAILY MAIL 0N 27/10/1916. SAME SERIAL NUMBER. BURIED ON THE SOMME, AT THE GUARDS’ CEMETERY, LESBOEUFS.
HIS BROTHER, ABLE SEAMAN, PERCY MITCHELL, ROYAL NAVY, HMS “CONTEST” WAS KILLED ON 19/09/1917, AGED 21. THIER DEATHS WERE REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 25/09/1917. *
