Parkinson, Henry

BORN HULL 1895. SON OF HENRY PARKINSON (1866-1921) AND ELIZABETH ANN SHAKESBY (1869-1946), OF 4, CLEVELAND TERRACE, WALCOTT STREET, HULL (HDM ADDRESS). HE WAS A TRINITY HOUSE SCHOLAR AND APPRENTICE HUMBER PILOT.

HE WAS KILLED BY A SNIPER JUST AFTER HIS 21ST BIRTHDAY. HE MARRIED NORA THORLEY BARTLETT (1897-1968), AT HULL, ON 19/01/1916, JUST THREE DAYS BEFORE HE WENT ABROAD. HELEFT HIS WIDOW, NORA, AT 49 WALCOTT STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). MARRIED FOR ONLY NINE DAYS BEFORE HE WAS KILLED BY A SNIPER, ON 28/01/1916, AGED 21.

HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE TRINITY HOUSE MEMORIAL.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH ON 7TH FEBRUARY 1916. *

HIS WIDOW RE-MARRIED ON 22/12/1917, TO JOSEPH STANLEY SHAWLER (1893-1966), A SHIP’S CARPENTER.

HIS TWO BROTHERS SERVED AT SEA WITH THE RNR & MINESWEEPERS. HIS BROTHER, BOATSWAIN, WILLIAM PARKINSON, WAS LOST ON MINESWEEPER TRAWLER, “ERA” ON 11/07/1916, AGED 24. HIS OTHER BROTHER, ARTHUR PARKINSON, SERVED WITH THE ROYAL NAVAL DIVISON.
