BORN HULL 1882. SON OF ISSAC (1849-1912) & ROSAMOND JANE OWST READMAN (1843-1912), OF MYTON, HULL. HE MARRIED AT HULL, IN 1905, AGED 23. WIFE ANNIE HARRIS READMAN, LIVED AT 58 WEST PARADE, HULL. HIS DEATH IS RECORDED ON THE HULL MERCHANT NAVY ROLL OF HONOUR.
HIS BROTHER ERNEST WORKED ON THE DOCKS IN HULL AND DIED IN HULL, IN 1917, AGED 39.
Greatham SS was a 2.338grt, defensively armed British Merchant ship. On the 22nd January 1918 when 3 miles SE from Dartmouth, Devon, England she was torpedoed without warning by a German submarine UB-31 and sunk. 7 killed. Vessel was on route from Grimsby to Blaye.
