BORN HULL 1897. SON OF JAMES & ANNIE ELIZA ROBINS & 7 CHILDREN ABOVE, HULL. BEFORE THE WAR EMPLOYED AS AN APPRENTICE METAL WORKER BY MESSRS PICKERING & HALDANE. HE ENLISTED IN NOVEMBER 1914 AT THE AGE OF 17. SERVING WITH THE HULL PALS IN EGYPT AND FRANCE. HE SURVIVED THE BATTLES OF THE SOMME AND OPPY WOOD. DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 30/07/1917, AGED 19.
HIS LIEUTENANT WROTE THAT HE ” WAS ONE OF OUR BEST MEN, STEADY RELIABLE AND A GOOD WORKER IN THE TRENCHES. HE DID HIS DUTY CHEERFULLY AND WAS ALWAYS BRAVE AND COOL. ”
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 7TH SEPTEMBER 1917, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *.
HE IS BURIED AT MAROEUIL BRITISH CEMETERY, PAS DE CALAIS, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “WE SHALL MEET AGAIN TO PART NO MORE EVER IN OUR THOUGHTS”.
