Hull Grammar School WW1 Memorial. Large bronze plaque, which lists 84 names now located at Tranby School, Anlaby, Hull

BORN HULL 1885. SON OF DR. GEORGE HENRY & KATE WATSON, OF 192, HALLGATE, COTTINGHAM, HULL.

EDUCATED AT HULL GRAMMAR SCHOOL. PRIOR TO THE WAR HE WAS PRACTICING MEDICINE.

HE SERVED AS A CAPTAIN IN THE ROYAL ARMY MEDICAL CORPS. HE HAD BEEN AT THE FRONT FOR NINETEEN MONTHS. WOUNDED ON HE SOMME ON 16/09/1916 AND DIED OF WOUNDS TWO DAYS LATER. HE WAS REPORTED WITH GUN SHOT WOUNDS TO THE ABDOMEN & SERIOUSLY ILL IN HOSPITAL (HDM 20/09/1916).

HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE RAMC MEMORIAL, WENLOCK BARRACKS, & LISTED ON THE COTTINGHAM ROLL OF HONOUR. HIS NAME IS ALSO RECORDED ON THE HULL GRAMMAR SCHOOL WW1 MEMORIAL. THERE IS A BRASS PLAQUE TO HIM INSIDE THE CHURCH OF ST MARY’S THE VIRGIN CHURCH, COTTINGHAM.

HE IS BURIED AT DERNANCOURT COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION, SOMME, FRANCE.
