SON OF A DOCKSIDE LABOURER. HE HAD ONE BROTHER, JOHN AND ONE SISTER, MARGARET. HIS PARENTS HAD MARRIED AT ST CHARLES BORROMEO CHURCH, HULL, ON 5T AUGUST 1897.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL. FORMERLY, PRIVATE, 110835, 5TH DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY (1918 MILITARY VOTERS). TRANSFERRED TO THE 22ND DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 27/05/1918, AGED 18. COMMEMORATED ON THE SOISSONS MEMORIAL, AISNE, FRANCE, TO THE MISSING. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER,

HIS FATHER TIMOTHY, WAS A FORMER 3RD EYR SOLDIER (DISCHARGED AS UNFIT) WHO RE-ENLISTED ON 24/11/1914. HE SERVED FOR 170 DAYS, BUT LOST 101 DAYS PAY, DUE TO FIVE SEPARATE PERIODS OF ABSENCE AND DEFFICIENCY OF KIT. DESCRIBED AS A “BAD” CHARACTER, “QUITE USELESS AND A BAD EXAMPLE”, HE WAS DISCHARGED FROM THE ARMY ON 19TH MAY 1915.
