Born Cherry Burton, Yorkshire, 1888. Son of George Thomas Batchelor (1845-1930) and Sarah Foster (1855-1913), of Cherry Burton, Beverley, Yorkshire; He had three brothers and six sisters.
He married Adelaide Rachel Dawson (1885-1955) on 01 /12/1915 , at St Michael All Angel, Cherry Burton, Yorkshire, England
They lived in Beverley. He worked as a Farm Labourer. Described as 5 foot, 6.5 inches tall, 27-39.5 inch chest, 158 lbs weight,
He enlisted in Hull, on 30/12/1914. Served as Gunner in the Royal Garrison Artillery, 1st Hull Heavy Battery and the the 158th Heavy Battery. He died at sea, from Black water Fever, on the Steam ship “Durham Castle”, en route to England from East Africa, on 19/01/1918, aged 28. He is buried in Southampton.
Commemorated on the Cherry Burton WW! Memorial, where most of his family lived and worked. His army effects were left to his widow, Adelaide, who moved to 23, Corporation Road., Grimsby. (Pension Address)
