Born Bridlington, 1895. Son of William Donkin (1872-1895) and Jane Webb (1875-1919). Stepfather Mr. James Simpkin and the late Mrs. Jane Simpkin, of 19 Herberts Terrace, Westbourne Street, Hull. Son of a night soil labourer.
His father died when he was about 1 year old. He was brought up by his step-father James Simpkin and his mother. He had one brother and two sisters.
He worked for the Hull Corporation Health Department. Enlisted at Hull, when war began. Served as a Driver in the 153rd Royal Field Artillery. Posted to France, on 20/04/1915.
Died on 6th November 1918 • Hospital, in, Radcliffe, Lancashire, England. Buried Hull Northern Cemetery. Aged 23
