Born Barton-on-Humber. Son of Nicholas Smith Grant and Harriet Fanny Lingard, of Kirmington, Ulceby, Lincs. A Joiner’s Apprentice
He enlisted in Hull. Served with the 1/4th East Yorkshire Regiment. Killed on Christmas day 1917, aged 25. Commemorated at the Tyne Cot Cemetery, Belgium.
