Born Skirlaugh, East Riding, 1893. Son of Francis William Swift and Maria Haith of Skirlaugh Post Office, Hull. (CWGC address). His father was sub post master and grocer. He assisted his family in the business.
Enlisted Beverley. Served with the 8th East Yorkshire regiment. Killed in action, on 04/11/1916, aged 23. Buried Euston Road Cemetery, Colincamps, France. His grave reads, “Thy Will Be Done”.
