Wilby, John William

Born Kentish Town, London, 1878. Married at St James, Hull, on 17th May 1900. Husband of Clara Wilby, at 70, Paisley Street, Hull (War Pension Address). They had two sons, Clarence Henry and Frederick William.

He was a radiator Machinist and lamp lighter. Also an artillery reservist with the East Yorkshire Artillery. Described as 5 foot, 8,5 inches tall, 124 lbs weight, 36-38 inch chest, grey eyes, dark brown hair, “Very Good” Character, sober, steady and reliable NCO.

He enlisted in the 1st Hull Heavy Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery, on 14th September 1914. Posted to East Africa on 7th February 1916. Invalided with Malaria, on 26th December 1916. Returned to England on 11th April 1917. Discharged on 10th September 1917. Died on 26 Apr 1920, aged 42.
