Newton, John

BORN HULL 1892. SON OF JOHN & LUCY NEWTON, AT 5, WEST VIEW, AIR STREET, HULL  (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). ONE OF SIX CHILDREN AND THREE BROTHERS KILLED IN WW1.

JOHN NEWTON WORKED WITH HIS FATHER AND BROTHERS, FRED, GEORGE AND EDWARD, AS GAS PURIFIERS, AT THE AIR STREET, GAS WORKS, HULL.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 17/09/1917. SERVED WITH THE RESERVE CAVALRY & EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. DISCHARGED ON 15/01/1919. (HIS RIGHT ARM WAS AMPUTATED). AWARDED THE SILVER WAR BADGE (NO: B97389). DIED AT HULL, IN 1926, AGED 34.

HE LEFT A DAUGHTER, VIOLET, IN THE GUARDIANSHIP OF HIS MOTHER, LUCY AND ELIZA ANN RANDALL (WAR PENSION RECORDS)

HIS THREE BROTHERS, GEORGE, EDWARD AND FRED WERE ALL KILLED IN THE WAR.
