Born Hull, 1888. Son of Richard and Margaret Mapes, at 8, Whitby Avenue, Whitby Street, Hull (1911 Census). Brothers, Edward, Harry and James, Sisters, Annie, Dorothy and Sarah.
He married at St Mark’s Church, Hull, on 26/12/1913. Husband of Ethel Belvers Mapes of 1, St Johns Avenue, St Marks Street, Hull (Army address) and 24, Chestnut Avenue, Garden Village, Hull (War pension address). They had two sons, Cyril and Edwin.
He worked as a Packer at the Reckitt’s Starch works. Described as 5 foot, 7 inches tall, 34-36 inch chest, 116 lbs weight, fair physical development, Tattooed Heart on left forearm, Church of England religion, “Good” Character.
He enlisted at Hull, on 25/11/1915. Mobilised on 05/06/1917. Posted to France, for two years, on 02/10/1917. Served in the Durham Light Infantry, Transferred to the 259th Employment Company, Labour Corps. Discharged as unfit, on 01/12/1919. Died in Hull, on 25/10/1920, aged 32.
