Grey, William Charles

Born 30 Jul 1885 • Beccles, Norfolk, Son of Thomas Grey (1845-1920) and Amelia Ives (1849-1919), of 6 Bell Road, Gorleston on Sea. He had five elders brothers and three sisters. He was aa Fisher worker in civilian life. described as 5 foot, 8 inch tall, 124 lbs weight, 34-36.5 inch chest,  blue eyes, auburn hair, mole on back, Church of England religion.

He joined the army on 29/02/1904 and was a Professional Soldier and Reservist, with the 1st & 3rd Norfolk Regiment. He served in the army for 15 years and 9 days, including South Africa.

Married at Newington, Hull, on 11/10/1909. Husband of Alice May Chapman (1888-1976), of 4 Olive Grove. Harrow St Hessle Road Hull (1911 Census) and 27, Tadman Street, Hull (War Pension address). They had four children

Posted to France with the British Expeditionary Force, on 14/08/1914. Wounded in action, on 27/07/1916 – Shell hock and broken ribs. Returned to France again on 04/03/1917. Discharged on 15/03/1919.

Died in Hull, on 11 Jan 1926, aged 40.
