Sweeting, Joseph

Born South Weald, Essex, 1883. Fifth Son of Alfred John and Elizabeth Ann Sweeting, of St Vincent Hamlet, South Weald, Brentwood, Essex. He had four elder brothers and one sister.

He worked as a Gardener (1911 Census). Resided in Hull according to Soldiers Died Records.

Husband of Kate Lilian Sweeting (born 24/9/1888), of Bilbardene, Signhills Avenue, Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire (CWGC address) and 234, De La Pole Avenue, Hull (War Pension address).

Enlisted at Warley, Essex. Served with the 1/8th & 1/9th Princess Louise’s (Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders). Killed in action on 16/05/1917, aged 31. His army effects were left to his widow.

Commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France.
