Born Hull, 1890. Son of Matthew J Cawthorn (1862-1925) and Lily Cawthorn, of 98, Egton Street, New Cleveland Street, Hull (1911 census). He had two brothers and three sisters. Worked as a Wood Sawyer with his brother Thomas.
Enlisted in the Hull Pals. Served in Egypt and France. Discharged on 9 April 1919 with Gun shot wound to the left thigh. Died at Hull, 14/06/1929, aged 39.
Married Edith Annie Beharrell (1893-1920) at Hull in 1915. She died aged 27. He then married Susan Moxon in Hull in 1926. They lived at 3, Northfield Villas, Rosemead Street, Hull (War Pension address).
