Born York, 1896. Son of Robert Heildsa and Emily Janes Heilds, of 2, Derwent Avenue, Alphonso Street, Hull (Army and War Pension address).
He was an Apprentice Mechancial Engineer .
He enlisted in the East Riding Fortress Engineers on 19/09/1913. Awarded the Territorial Efficiency Medal. Posted to France on 17/09/1915. Promoted through the ranks to Sergeant. Wounded with Shell Shock on 7 June 1917. Wounded by Gunshot to left leg and face, on 12 Dec 1917. Returned to Military Hospitals in England.
Awarded the Belgium Croix De Guerre (London Gazette, 15 April 1918).
His left Leg was amputated. Discharged with 100% Disability, on 7 Sept 1920. He had served in the army for 6 years and 355 days. His Military Character was descibed as “Excemplary)
He died at the Shell Mex Buildings, Ferensway, on 10 August 1935, aged 38.
He married Hilda Padgett at Leeds, in July 1925. He left £451 in his will to his wife, Hilda Heilds, at 19, Risby Grove, Cottingham Road, Hull (Probate Address).
