Bannister, Robert

Born Hull, 1896. Son of Robert Bannister (1856-1918) and Miranda Bannister (1854-1913), of 9, William’s Place, St James Street, Hull (1911 Census) and 2, Wolferton Villas, Springhead, Hull (War Pension address). He worked as a back sawyer. Elder siblings Benkamin and Jane.

Enlisted at Hull. Formerly 316185, Northumberland Fusiliers. Transferred to the Queen’s Own (Royal West Kent Regiment), 10th Bn. Killed in action on 21 September 1917, aged 21.

Commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium. His army effects were left to his father, Robert.

His brother, Master, Benjamin Hackson Bannister, MV “Arinia”, was killed at sea, on 19 Dec 1940, aged 48.
