William Henry Syrett was born in Stowmarket, Suffolk, in 1876, He married Edith Christina Brown at Sculcoates, Hull, in 1898. He was lost at sea, on the Hull ship Caliban, on 15/03/1915 aged 39. He left a widow and two children, at 101 Flinton Street, Hessle Road, Hull. He is commemorated on Hull’s Hessle Road sea memorial. No CWGC records
On April 12th, 1917, the British trawler Caliban was sunk by the German submarine UC-76 (Wilhelm Barten), 8 miles NE1/2E of Kincaid Head. There were no casualties.
