Carroll, William Henry

Born Tipton, Staffordshire, 1887. Son of George Henry and Clara Carrill, of Staffordshire. He came from a Staffodshire born mining family working in West Yorkshire.

Enlisted in the British Army on 22/4/1911 and was an Army Reservist. Before WW1 he worked with his father as a coal miner (Hewer).

Posted to France with the British Expeditionary Force, on 26/10/1914. Served as Lance Corporal, King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, & 3rd South Wales Borderers. Discharged on 15/11/1917. Awarded the Silver War Badge (No: 288348).

After the war he became a Postman at 90 Langthwaite Lane, Moorthorpe, West Yorkshire.

Died on 12/05/1921, aged 34. His war pension was left to Gladys May Carroll, at Swanland, Hull (War Pension address).
